Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are used on teeth that have been seriously damaged from chipping, cracking, excessive tooth decay or are extremely stained or discolored. They strengthen the remaining tooth using metals or resins as a "cap" over existing tooth structure.

Also known as tooth caps or dental caps, they are made from either metals or resins. Gold is usually mixed with small amounts of other metals for the back molars that need to be sturdy, as they do much of the chewing. Ceramic (aka: porcelain) resins are used for teeth in the front of the mouth that are made to look more like the color of the other teeth. Sometimes metal crowns are veneered with porcelain for stability that also blends in with other teeth.

Dental crowns can also transform the look of your smile while protecting the health of your teeth when used to hide unsightly cracks, chips, gaps or discoloration on the front teeth that most people see.
